A rainbow walk is the perfect ‘date’ to take your child on for their ‘special time‘. It is a simple assignment; as you walk around your neighborhood, look for a plant in each of the colors of the rainbow! The only rule is obvious: no picking from the neighbor’s flower garden without permission.
Grab a small bucket to carry along with you on your rainbow walk. A pair of small scissors might also be handy to have along!
Green is easy-peasy and might be the first thing your child wants to grab, but try to hold them off to find the most unique green item they can find. The green can be a fun way to add texture (evergreens) or size (magnolia leaves). See if you can keep them from grabbing the first thing they see.
My daughter absolutely loved doing this and asks all the time to do it again. It is such a fun and simple activity to get them outside, talking to you, doing something together.
I would love to see your rainbow walk pictures! Please post them here!
