How to Safely Remove a Large Tree From Your Yard

It did not take long for me to lose count of the number of times I have raked the leaves under the Magnolia tree in our backyard.  We have this one little area with some potential for grass and this Magnolia (aka litter tree) was hogging all the sunlight, and leaving a huge mess in her wake.  Leaves on this monster drop year round and are huge, waxy leaves that are not fun or easy to clean.  I went out to rake a few mornings ago after the kids left for camp and I had it.  I snapped.  I looked at that tree and decided that I had raked my last leaf.  I borrowed my neighbors ladder, grabbed my sawzall (NOT saw saw) and started taking the limbs down.  About 20 branches and two blades later I ran into a wasp nest and was stung twice before I could get myself out of the branches and back onto the ladder where I jumped to get to the wasps off of me.  I decided right there and then that 1) I was too young to die, and 2) I was too old to get injured.  Twenty minutes later a picture of my tree was on Thumbtack and I had a bid to come get the tree to the ground safely for me.

This post is to serve as a reminder that some projects require a professional 🙂  My life is worth more than $150 and hospital charges would have been astronomical.  When the job is too big, there is a professional out there to serve you!

*this was NOT that tree.  I have guts, but I am not crazy 🙂
